Alex Shibutani

Olympian, Team USA
Alex Shibutani

Alex Shibutani is a two-time Olympic medalist (Figure Skating), author, producer, photographer, creative consultant, and advocate for cultural exchange, sports accessibility, and education. On the ice, he and his sister, Maia, known together as the ShibSibs, have achieved unprecedented success as an Ice Dance team, winning medals in every year of their 14-season career representing the United States. In 2018, the siblings made Olympic history, becoming the first ice dancers of Asian descent and the first team of color to medal at the Winter Olympic Games. These historic achievements led to their first ballot induction to the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in January, 2023. Off the ice, Alex has served as a Sports Envoy with the U.S. Department of State since 2016. In 2021, he was selected to join the LA28 Athletes’ Commission. In an evolution of his storytelling abilities, he has co-authored three children’s books to combat the lack of visibility and representation of AAPIs in culture, media, and education. The most recent is a non-fiction picture book released in 2023, “Amazing: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Who Inspire Us All.” Alex is an accomplished photographer and has expanded his partnership with his sister to begin creating in the world of television and film.
